For Nuala (that was the kid’s identify, from the Gaelic that means “white shoulder”) life grew to become insupportable and he or she retreated to the woods, the place she discovered herself protected and amply sheltered. Nuala quickly found that she possessed a present which was to change her life: a capability to grasp the innumerable languages spoken by natural world. And so the forest grew to become her area; the vixen and she-wolf, her familiars. It fell to her lot that, by way of their tender ministrations – she grew to become identified far and huge for her talents as a healer. Comply with her by way of the woods, previous the brambles which chunk and catch. Her step is certain; she traverses these environs in her sleep. It’s the very cusp between autumn and winter: fallen leaves coat the forest flooring, silvered with frost – however Nuala treads noiselessly in naked ft, oblivious to the chilly. She forages for what stays, for she has already put apart a sylvan harvest’s bounty to see her by way of the winter. Nuts, berries, roots, herbs, mosses, bark – every preserved, dried, judiciously saved in loving order for libation, sustenance, enchantment. All that surrounds her is aromatic because the season – and Nuala herself, likewise.

It have to be that award-winning artisanal perfumer Daybreak Spencer Hurwitz created an elixir for her alone, sporting the fairytale appellation Muresque: that which resembles the blackberry. All of the riches of legend are contained inside a single drop:  the violet crimson of the grape from which water of life is distilled (eau de vie), intensely hued berries that stain the lips so sweetly, their brambles which scratch the flesh and tug on the hem of her cloak. The juicy tartness of black currant, gentled by benevolent wooden violets – bestows a beetroot-like hue mirrored in perfume as an olfactory mirror picture. Daybreak accords her the bergamot of excessive summer time and whispers of sultry roses and indolic jasmine from that gilded season; aldehydes portend the chillier one to come back.
